Join NAMI Greater Orlando on Sunday, January 28, 2018, as we present the This Is My Brave Show Orlando at the Orlando Museum of Art. This Is My Brave is a show about what it’s like to live through mental illness and come out on the other side. The production showcases the personal stories of local individuals living successful, full lives despite mental illness.
Our cast of local individuals will share their powerful, personal stories on stage through original music, poetry and essay. In conjunction with the show, an art exhibition will feature works of local artists who live with a mental health diagnosis and creatively express themselves through various mediums of art. The art exhibit hours are 1:30-4 pm. There will be a VIP Meet the Cast Reception from 4-5 pm.
Through the sharing of stories and experiences of those in recovery, the show provides a sense of community and hope, and encouragesothers to share their stories. Through creative expression, our show’s stars will bravely share their stories, to help build community awareness for mental health issues and to fight the stigma of mental illness. This show will celebrate the strength, resilience and power of the story each individual has to share. Shows have been produced across the U.S. This will be the first production in Central Florida.
This Is My Brave serves as a platform and a community for people sharing stories of lives affected by mental illness to end the stigma. Its flagship program is a theater show of essays, poetry and music. The 501c3 non-profit organization’s mission is to ignite and actively promote – through community programs and social media – a positive, supportive national conversation about mental illness for those who live with, or love someone who lives with, a mental illness.
